The organisers of the Twizza Super School Series are excited to announce the names of the 52 male teams, 50 female teams and 46 mixed teams that qualified for the 2022 Twizza Super School Series National Final that will take place in Gauteng on Saturday 19 February 2022.

Launched in 2019, the Twizza Super School Series has very quickly become a highlight on the schools’ athletics calendar and has one clear goal in mind – to crown SA’s best athletics school! There can be only ONE WINNER!

The winning school will take home bragging rights for one year!

“We are excited and proud to reveal the names of the schools that have qualified for the 2022 Twizza Super School Series National Final,” says Lance Coertzen, Twizza Group Marketing Manager. “Both Regional Qualifiers exceeded our expectations, and we can’t wait for the action to recommence in February 2022. We would like to thank each and every school, student and teacher for their support. Your participation contributed towards the many special moments that were made in 2021. Best of luck to all the schools that will proceed to the National Final. Use this time well to fine tune your skill. We cannot wait to once again #TasteTheMoment at the 2022 Twizza Super School Series National Final.”

Menlopark High School, Paarl Boys High School and La Rochelle Girls’ High School (Paarl) are amongst the schools that have qualified to participate at the National Final in 2022.

According to the ranking list, Menlopark High School was a force to be reckoned with both in the Boys and Girls team competition at the Regional Qualifier #1 that was held at Ruimsig Athletics Stadium (Roodepoort) in September.

According to JJ Smith, High School Menlopark Director of Athletics, despite stringent Covid regulations, the Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #1 delivered top performances which showed that athletes were eager to perform under any circumstances. “We are very excited to compete at the highest level of schools’ athletics,” says Smith. “Being back in a competitive environment at the Twizza Super School Series was very challenging, but I believe we adapted well to the environment and performed nicely. As the Twizza Super School Series is the highest team competition in schools’ athletics, it is a very high priority for our school. Our goal will be to perform better than our last performance, challenging our talents and hard work while enjoying the opportunity as much as possible.”

The Regional Qualifier #2 that was held at the Greenpoint Athletics Stadium (Cape Town) in October saw Paarl Boys High School claim top honours in the Boys Team Competition, while La Rochelle Girls High School (Paarl) dominated in the Girls Team Competition.

“The Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2 was well organised and we really enjoyed it,” says Girt Geldenhuys, Paarl Boys High MIC Athletics.  “We like to take part in events and winning is a great bonus. We snuck in the back door at the Regional Qualifier #2 with the last event on the day. We will have to up our game to compete with the schools up North. The Twizza Super School Series has had a positive impact on our school and learners. There is now an excitement amongst all athletes and pupils. In 2019 we came 7th overall at the National Final. We will try to beat it. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are up for the challenge.”

According to Marianna Schoeman, La Rochelle Girls’ High School Athletics Co-ordinator and Team Manageress, the Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2 was very well organised and competitive. “The competition on the day was very strong with different schools leading on the points table throughout the day. We are satisfied and very proud of our achievement. We will, however, need to work even harder to compete up North. It is very important to be able to compete against other Top Athletic Schools. Our goal will be to do our very best.”
